cE626: Groundwater Systems Planning and Management
This is a full semester course covering basics of groundwater hydrology, groundwater modeling, and planning. This page covers the first half of the course as taught by me covering basic groundwater hydrology and groundwater management.
Who should attend?
Anyone who is interested to develop an understanding of:
(i) basic governing laws for movement of groundwater and its interactions with other components of the hydrologic cycle
(ii) groundwater modeling: numerical methods for approximating equations occurring in groundwater hydrology and optimization
(iii) management of groundwater, in isolation and in conjunction with surface water
Prerequisites
A knowledge in basic hydrology, optimization methods, and programming is useful, though not mandatory.
Course Overview
Course Schedule (Part 1)
Course Goals
- To define and explain how groundwater occurs in the subsurface
- To apply the general equations of movement of water in saturated porous media to groundwater problems
- To explain how groundwater interacts with other components of the hydrologic cycle
- To apply concepts related to management of groundwater for near-real management problems
